PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a biodegradable and eco-friendly thermoplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch and sugarcane. Known for its excellent printability, PLA is widely used in 3D printing to create high-quality, detailed products. It offers a smooth surface finish and is safe for a variety of applications. Choosing products made from PLA supports sustainable practices and reduces environmental impact while ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal.

At War Altar, we use an enhanced version of standard PLA filament. It's engineered for high-speed printing while maintaining excellent print quality and dimensional accuracy. This material is known for its increased strength and toughness compared to regular PLA, making it more durable and less prone to warping. Additionally, it provides a smooth surface finish with reduced visible layer lines, making it ideal for producing high-quality, detailed prints quickly and efficiently.

3D Printer - when printing models, we use top-quality 3D printers equipped with specially selected nozzles designed for printing small and detailed items such as terrain pieces, board game accessories, and wargaming table components.

Depending on the complexity of the model being printed, the layer height ranges between 0.12 mm (120 µm) and 0.16 mm (160 µm).

Color - The images of the product are 3D visualizations. If the product you wish to purchase does not have a filament color option, it will be printed in a neutral gray color.

After the model is printed with PLA material, we follow a series of steps to ensure the product is ready to be delivered to you.

Removal of Supports and Brims - We remove support structures and brims from the model. We take great care to remove all production remnants, but it’s possible that some supports may be missed. These can be easily removed using modeler’s pliers, we compare it to removing mold lines on plastic miniatures.

Sanding - If necessary, we use sandpaper to smooth out rough areas. After sanding, the dust is cleaned off. The sanded area will be visible, but after applying primer, it will not be noticeable.

Unlike resin printing, when you receive a finished model made from PLA material, there is no need to wash it with warm water.

Scale - Terrains are sculpted by creators to a scale between 28mm and 32mm. We’ve found this scale to be very versatile and effective on wargaming tables. If you're interested in a different scale, please contact us, and we'll see if we can resize the product to your preferred scale.

Bases - The miniatures we produce do not include bases, except for those with custom-sculpted bases. We offer plain bases as well as bases with various textures, such as forest, mountains, city, spaceship, cobblestone, and more. If you're unsure about the base size for your miniature, contact us, and we'll gladly assist you.

Painting - We recommend priming prints with a dedicated primer before painting. This enhances paint adhesion and makes painting easier. It's also worth mentioning that priming is an easy way to achieve natural-looking shadows in nooks and crannies.
